Aligning the text with My word made the text visual so much better to look at, it looks more intentional and thought out. Really looking at text as form as visual image instead of reading it. which helped a lot with understanding what type really is and how it is used the right way. Type, made me see text differently made me think about how i place it and how i set it up the way that is more pleasing to look. I feel i have more control over text that i thought i would ever be i never thought that all these years I was reading text the wrong way, and that text needs to be kerned and tracked and aligned so that it looks more pleasing. Now that I understood what Type really is its become annoying to me to look at other public signs and logos.

Ive learned that the type size, typeface, weight, direction are the main key to help aid communication and differentiate the denotative and connotative of type. Now I’ve understood why they made us print 100 pages of words and 50 pages of different typefaces and pt of the typeface, practice made me not only understand what works better then what but also made me work faster and now I have the knowledge of how things work best with what and what i should and should not do with text.

The poster…

Putting everything together i believe is the easiest part of the hole project, because everything was perfectly aligned and tracked i just had to put everything together to complete the master piece. I believe working step by step really helped and really made us understand how its done, it wasn’t just text on a page it was placed with thought with the intention of it all connecting to one another. Basically my research was looking back at what I’ve done previously, the sentence the paragraph the logo. When placing everything together I’ve put my best two paragraph, sentence and logo and tried every possibility to see what works best with what, having different font size and different compositions seeing where text would suit on my poster best. I didn’t have much space on my poster to place text because it was too busy of colours my Word took over most of the poster so i had limited options of placing the text. However, i had a problem where i placed text infant of the Quran which was a risk, because others might be offended by it even though i personally don’t think it is because the text talks about happens and nothing offensive. I could’ve placed the text on top of it, i didn’t see that it was a problem but i didn’t want to take that road where people criticise my work and see it offensive and wrong doing.

The placement of the logo i tried to make it part of the poster instead of putting it aside like it has nothing to with the poster. I tried to squeeze it through the holes of the letters but that just makes it look the cheesy like its something that people would think would be clever of us but its not really. So i placed it diagonally aligned with the Quran which looked more part of the poster. I faced difficulties with the background because there are so many colours and its too busy so when applying text its gets lost with the colours, so i placed a box around behind it so that it would stand out.

Spirited away…

The group project…

It  took a bundle of energy to convince the hole group on an idea, its really tough to work with other designers that have a different vision of how the final outcome would look like everyone believes there idea is the best. how we resolved this issue is by listening to everyones ideas then try to combine them together so in the end everyone is happy. We decided on many ideas but they kept changing along the way because we kept having new ideas better ways to creating  it in a different way. at first we wanted to create a maze, trying to create a lost atmosphere but then when we saw the space that we chose it wasn’t enough space and it would take a lot of time to build, so we ended up with creating a piece of the maze so its more  of a path then a maze.

Along the way of painting the walls white we had an issue,…

Painting the walls of our path with paint was a bad a idea because when it dried it curved and we searched of ways to straighten it out by ironing it and applying weight on the back but still didn’t work and was time consuming. to resolve the situation and with the time we had we decided to cover the cardboard with paper so its lighter and less time consuming.

My intention of the paragraph in the beginning is now totally different, it is because i have experienced i have viewed what looks pleasing to the eye and what doesn’t. I discovered a system that helped me layout my text on the page. Its like baking a cake you need the exact amount of ingridents to end up with a perfect a cake. I found it easy for me to measure the the space between the text and edge of the page, which really made a difference when looking at the page. I thought it looked beautiful because it wasn’t placed randomly and it shows that there was thought put into it, there was an intention. i found playing with the sentence much easier then the paragraph, but after really understanding how to do it and what works with what it helped create what i did. i found that tracking and kerning my paragraph really makes a difference on how the hole layout looks like and how just adjusting the right amount can make the hole paragraph look so beautiful on the page. I’m actually thinking of framing my final one in my room.

The Paragraph

Placing text on a page is something that we do almost everyday on social media. Its because when you place text on a blank page or on a image in a specific order it creates an attachment for viewers to want to read it makes text more interesting to read. Thats why text today uses a poetic system to play with text, size, colour and the placement of text on the page to get people to read text more as an image then reading it from a book.

My paragraph

The paragraph is about happiness the opposite meaning of my word, dismal. I took this paprgraph from a book by Michael Argyl. I feel more confident in this project because i know the rules now of how to make type pleasing to the eye, now what i have to do after understanding it is create a system that works for me.

The Intent

During this project I discovered that i work best under pressure  for some reason. I got a chance to play with photoshop, which is something i struggled a lot with, i never got the hang of i always felt that illustrator is better, but after the work shop with tareq i got more comfortable and discovered several new features and techniques that photoshop even had. i found it easier to draw with the pen tool then in illustrator.

To be completely honest I got this idea from the comic scene of batman slapping robin. First  I drew the female with the niqab (covering the face), meaning that  even women that cover their face get harassed by men, when they are clearly not interested. In this sign the male is trying to give his number but gets denied by a slap the card his holding is his phone number and there are 8 to show the right amount of number in an actual phone number.

Behind the scenes…

Saying No!

When creating signs the first thing that came up to mind was traffic signs so when ever we were designing it we would referenceing  to traffic signs of it being flat. So these are a couple of different styles of a No flirting sign. Saying no without using the red sign made my design more interesting because at first i was thinking of placing a male and female then a red line across the hole thing. But when we were restricted of not using it, it made me think deeper of ways of saying no and it just made it more interesting to just to look at but as well as when designing it, its just historical.

In Doha (especially) flirting is a common thing, to harass girls by simply just throwing words at her when they pass by, so this idea made me want to create awareness that not everyone is interested in your words or number. So my target audience are male Qatari well it happens everywhere in the middle east but for now I’m aiming at Qatar  from the age of 20 and 35. This sign would be placed in malls and popular restaurants  such as in katara and the pearl of Qatar.
